ALL NINE VALLEY CITIES TO RECEIVE THEIR SUSTAINABILITY RANKING

On Thursday December 8th, the Coachella Valley Branch of the Inland Empire Chapter of the US Green Building Council launched their City Sustainability Dashboard here in the Valley.

The Dashboard measures the sustainability policies and performance of all nine Coachella Valley cities and provides a roadmap for each city to follow toward adopting sustainability legislation and initiatives.  This marks the first time in the Coachella Valley that all nine cities are being evaluated as a group.  The Dashboard encourages the cities to work together and share best practices to get us to a sustainable future more quickly.

“We are thrilled to have both CVEP and CVAG partnering with us for this launch event,” said USGBC Co-Chair Eric Corey Freed, “if anyone can get the Valley cities to work together it is them.”

The purpose of the scorecard is to provide a sustainability roadmap for the cities to follow, and encourage them to work together to meet these important goals.

All nine Coachella Valley city councils have agreed to review the Sustainability Accord, promising to use the Dashboard as a roadmap for their own sustainability policies and agree to participate in a quarterly meeting to share their sustainability plans and best practices with the other cities.

The city representatives will reconvene again next December 2012 to review the progress each City has made, including recognizing “Most Improved” and “Most Innovative.”
